In English we will be covering a range of text types and developing our confidence in writing. There will be daily phonic sessions where children will be working on phase 5.
Fiction - Children will read and listen to lots of traditional tales which they will be adapting with their own ideas to give them a twist. They will be given lots of opportunities to generate ideas, plan and write their very own stories throughout the term.
Non Fiction – We will be learning all about instructions. We will be focusing on their purpose and how to write a clear set of instructions. The children will have the opportunity to follow a variety of different instructions and test out their own.
Poetry – Children will enjoy a variety of songs and repetitive poems. We will focus on how poetry can express thoughts and feelings, demonstrate rhythm and structure.
Sequencing and place value – ordering and comparing numbers to 100, count on in tens from any 1 or 2 digit number and mental addition and subtraction using place value. We will explore how this can be recorded through partitioning and on an empty number line.
Money and time - Coins: Recognise, find the total value of two, find totals up to 20p, find change from 20. Read the time to the quarter of an hour on digital and analogue clocks, begin to identify time intervals.
Multiplication and division - Recognise multiples, use grouping to count larger groups, understand multiplication as repeated addition and use multiplication to describe an array. To understand grouping as a model of division; understand that division can leave some left over; solve a word problem. Mental multiplication and division of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
2D and 3D shape and data - Recognise common 2D and 3D shapes, draw, sort and describe 2D and 3D shapes.
The Human Body
Throughout this topic children will learn all about their different senses through a senses carousel where they will explore each of their senses. We will learn about some of our internal organs and their different functions. The children will explore the concept of growth in both humans and animals. Children will also learn about personal hygiene and receive a visit from the school nurse.
Mindset song 2016
As a school we have been continuing to work hard, exploring what we think about learning and how we can ‘grow our brains!’ Year 2 have been talking about the language of learning, the importance of exercising your brain and how best to achieve great things. We have put our learning into a class song. We hope you enjoy listening to it and look forward to hearing your feedback.
