Inspire, believe, achieve!

Year 5 Mrs Simon

Welcome to Class RS! I hope everyone had a fantastic summer holiday and is looking forward to Year 5. I have already spoken to a few parents/guardians but it would be lovely to meet everyone and put names to faces, so come and see me at the end of school any day. In Year 5 we will be working hard but having lots of fun along the way!

I will attach our newsletter with full details below, but curriculum highlights this term include:

- Maths- place value, ordering numbers including decimals, negative numbers and revision of the written methods.

- English- lots of topic-linked learning including a character description, retelling of a Viking Saga and a non-chronological report. Also, among other things, several pieces tied to a novel- ‘Journey to Jo’burg’ which we will be studying.

- Topic– Our topic this term is the Vikings. We will be doing all manner of exciting things including using water colours to paint a depiction of Thor, the Viking God of Thunder, and making our own longboats.

Welcome back to what will be a fun-packed and exciting Autumn term.

Please find a copy of this term’s newsletter which includes details of some of the exciting things we have planned this term.

We expect children to read at home on a regular basis in year 5 and keep practising the rapid recall of their times tables up to 12x12. Each week, children will receive a piece of literacy homelearning, a piece of maths homelearning and fifteen spellings to learn. Homelearning is given out on a Friday and should be returned no later than Wednesday to enable us to mark and feedback.
