Welcome to Nursery's page!
Hello and welcome to our page.
Nursery are having so much fun exploring the classroom, sharing experiences and creating with their friends. As teachers, we have observed the children when they play and spoken to them about their interests. This has lead us to make some small changes to our classroom and the activities within it. This will happen throughout the year as the children progress through our curriculum and their interests change.
There are lots of pictures and information below, for you to look at and we tweet regularly so don't forget to follow us at @firsprimarysale
If you have any questions, please email me at kpentith@firs.trafford.sch.uk and I will do my very best to help.
We are really enjoying going on our adventure together.

World Book Day 2022
The children in Nursery looked fantastic as we celebrated World Book Day. A big thank you to all of the parents and carers for helping with the costumes. We took the chance to read even more books than normal and we played lots of book themed games. I definitely have some fantastic recommendations for books to add to our classroom!
Matt's Sea Creature Visit
We were so lucky to be able to see the weird and wonderful sea creatures up close; we even held some! We saw a blue starfish, a deep sea starfish, a green brittle starfish, a pencil urchin, a pincushion urchin, a sea hare and a quasimodo slug. At last but not least we saw Nemo!
We asked so many questions and found out lots of interesting facts. Did you know that starfish have the same amount of eyes as legs?
Our Reading Gallery
We love to read in Nursery! We read at least two books everyday and love the chance to snuggle up in the reading area with familiar books. Why not take a look at some pictures of us reading, our favourite books and even some videos of us reading!
Our Art Gallery
We love to explore and create using lots of different resources. Sometime our art is linked to a topic or book and sometimes art is one of the ways we express ourselves. We use paint, crayons, playdough, collage and natural materials to create or art. We focus on the process rather than the outcome; that way all of our work is unique, just like us!
Communication and Language Parent Workshop
Many thanks to those who attended our Communication and Language Workshop. I have attached the slides for you to look through. There are lots of hints, tips, games and advice. If you have any further questions, please come and speak to a member of the Nursery Team, our EYFS Lead - Miss Thomson or our Communication and Language Lead - Miss Curbishley.

Curriculum Overviews
End of Year Expectations
The following document is taken from the Early Years Framework and additional guidance Development Matters. All children will be taught these learning points however our curriculum is not limited to these points and will include much more.
Phonics - Phase 1
Phase 1 phonics is vital as it develops many phonological skills that are essential for successful reading. The pictures below explain the different aspects of Phase 1. I would also like draw your attention to Mini Writers Club on Instagram. They have lots of handy explanations and activity ideas, so why not take a look.
At home play ideas
It is a well known fact that children love to play. What is lesser known, is that whilst children are playing they are learning!
Try some of these fun games and activities to help your little one learn whilst playing.
There are also a number of websites that have lots of educational and fun games to play or videos to watch.
