Welcome to 1KT
Hello and welcome to our Year 1KT page
We hope you have had a fabulous Easter break. The Summer term is upon us already! We continue to be impressed with how well all of Year 1KT have worked so far and we know this term will be just as successful.
Our first topic will be all about travel and transport. We will learn about all forms of transport and children can share their personal experiences of different journeys. There are many interesting people throughout history who created moving vehicles of all kinds. We are looking forward to exploring the lives of these amazing individuals.
You will find plenty of online resources below to help your children consolidate their learning at home.
We have plenty more exciting challenges this term and I am sure that your children will be eager to share what they have done in class with you at home.
Please help us in school by remembering the following:
PHONIC SCREENING CHECK
Following the Whit half term break all Year 1 children are required to sit a statutory test called the Phonic Screening Check. This is a reading test which requires the children to apply their phonic knowledge to read a mixture of real and nonsense words. Please find further guidance below. If you have any further questions about this or are worried about your child's progress please come and speak to us.
As always, we appreciate the ongoing support of our parents and we encourage you to communicate any concerns or questions.

Phonics
Phonics continues from Reception and in Year 1 children gain new skills and enhance their current phonics skills. I would like draw your attention to Mini Writers Club on Instagram. They have lots of handy explanations (like the ones below) and activity ideas, so why not take a look.
