Welcome to the Y4KH/CN webpage where we will keep you updated about all of the exciting things we have learnt each term as well as additional information about what we will be learning in the upcoming term.
In English this half term we will be reading and writing a range of playscripts, understanding the features of and creating our own discussions, debates, reports and diaries in addition to exploring poems on a theme and classic poetry. We will continue using a Talk for Writing approach to help us with our writing, and will learn texts off by heart to help us understand and remember the structure. We have had a lot of fun doing this and have created some great actions which really help us remember the text.
For maths we will be learning a broad range of units but will be specifically focusing on developing mental strategies of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000, partitioning numbers and practising multiplication and division facts for 4,6,7, 8 and 9 times tables in the first half term.
Our topic this half term is 'What Lives Here?' which will focus on organisms and their habitats, specifically micro-habitats in our local environment. Children will begin to gain an understanding of what an organism needs to survive and how environmental changes can pose dangers to certain living things. Children will gather and record data in a range of different ways including using classification keys to organise and identify vertebrates and invertebrates. We will also have a trip out this half term which will help us explore animals and their habitats further.
We are really looking forward to more challenges and fun learning ahead and hope that you are too!
Thank you for your continued support.
