Advance or regular payments must be made in to your child's ParentPay meal account to ensure that there is a credit balance at all times. PLEASE NOTE: If your account reaches an arrears level of £20, your child will be moved to packed lunches until such time as the account balance is settled up. Thank you for your support on this.

Free School Meals (FSM) - Changes to Eligibility from September 2026

Further to our email on 15/05/26, as part of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026, from September 2026, all children from households receiving Universal Credit who attend maintained schools, academies, or free schools will be entitled to a free school meal

This means that all pupils in households receiving Universal Credit will be entitled to FSM, regardless of income, from the start of the 2026/27 academic year.

There will be two categories of benefits-related Free School Meals:

  • Targeted FSM – for pupils from households receiving Universal Credit with annual household earnings of £7,400 or less.
  • Expanded FSM – a new category for pupils from households receiving Universal Credit who do not meet the Targeted FSM earnings threshold.

Even if you are unsure whether your child qualifies, we strongly encourage you to apply, as eligibility may provide additional funding and support for the school as well as free meals for your child. This is applicable to families with children from Nursery upwards, as school may receive additional funding for any eligible child.

Whether your child is in Nursery, Reception or even Y6, it is really important that you complete this check. Whilst children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 automatically qualify for free school meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meal (UIFSM) scheme, if they are eligible for Targeted or Expanded FSM under the new criteria, school may receive additional funding for those children, so please do take the time to check.

How to Apply

If you have not already done so, please use the link below to check your child's eligibility:

https://apply.cloudforedu.org.uk/ofsm/sims-trafford

To complete the application, you will need:

  • Your name and date of birth
  • Contact details
  • National Insurance Number or National Asylum Support Service (NASS) Number
  • Your child's name and date of birth
  • The name of the school your child attends or will attend

Please note that applications must be submitted annually, even if your child has previously received Free School Meals.

If you have more than one child, a separate application is required for each child; however, the system will retain your details to make subsequent applications quicker and easier. In most cases, you will receive an immediate decision regarding eligibility once the application has been completed.

If you require any assistance with the application process, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM)

As stated above, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 qualify for Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM), entitling them to a free hot meal provided by School. If you prefer your child to bring a packed lunch, this must be brought in from home. Please note that packed lunches are not covered under the Government-funded UIFSM scheme.

Please NoteFamilies with children in Early Years or KS1 may also be eligible for FSM, even though they would be in receipt of UIFSM. We encourage all families to check their eligibility and apply for FSM as the School receives additional funding for all eligible children throughout their entire primary school journey.
