Welcome to Year 4 2024/25

Welcome to Y4 Poplar

#Y4Poplar

Welcome to Year 4 Poplar!

The beginning of any school year is always full of excitement, exploration and the odd few nerves. This year is no exception.  In class we will start setting routines, class rules and expectations on behaviour from day 1 that the children will very quickly get on board with, this will make for a smooth transition from Year 3. In those first few weeks routine is very important, so please ensure your child is in school on time (8.40am-8.50am) every day as lessons start straight away. PSHE plays a big part in all aspects of school life, non more so than at the beginning of a new school year. Rest assure we will do all we can to make sure the children are safe and secure whilst feeling happy in school.

Finally, the children will no doubt continue with their current friendships and no doubt make new ones along the way, encourage them to form relationships with everyone from all backgrounds that demonstrates our school values and roots of the school. #teamwork #honesty #empathy #resilience # optimism #oracy #tolerance #selfawareness

As always, my door is always open but if you prefer to email me then please do on nliddell@firs.trafford.sch.uk with any concerns. Communication is key to our ongoing success.

Many thanks for all your future support.

Mr N Liddell

Reading for Pleasure

Reading for Pleasure plays a huge part in our school and Year 4 is no exception! We love reading and sharing our thoughts on what we have read. We will read out loud, with a partner or on our own.

Curriculum Expectations

The Parent leaflet below details information for parents and carers about the end of year expectations for the children in our school.

Methods In Maths

We understand that the mathematical methods taught in school may be different from what adults at home know and use. Use this link to find videos that explain the methods taught in school for each operation.

Times tables

At the end of Year 4, children will sit a national times tables test.  It is therefore extremely important that times tables are learnt and further consolidated over the course of the year.  TT Rockstars is a great resource for this (link above - all children have log in details in their reading records)  Children will be tested DAILY.
