Welcome to Y4 Poplar
Hello Year 4!
We hope you have all had a relaxing, fun Easter break and are now ready for all of the exciting activities and challenges that lie ahead for the rest of the academic year.
During this academic year, we will place key information on this class page. In addition to this, please check out the #Y4NL school Twitter feed as we will be sharing what we've been getting up to each week!
P.E. will be on Thursday and Friday, so we ask that children come to school wearing their PE kits: shorts or joggers, trainers, yellow Firs T-shirt and our green Firs jumper. See the office for a kit list.
We will also start swimming lessons at Sale Leisure Centre and this will continue until the end of the year so please remember your swimming kit.
We ask that reading records are in school EVERYDAY. They will be written in periodically throughout the week and will be checked on Friday. We ask that children try to read every day and that a parent/carer signs their reading record book. This can be a page, a chapter or even a book each day, but please encourage reading as much as possible. An alternative reading method is to mute the TV, put subtitles on and hey presto, they're reading!
Homework and spellings will be given out on Friday and need to be returned on the following Wednesday. Spelling tests will also be on Wednesday mornings. Homework will now be completed in Home Learning books; your child knows about this and they will continue to get a weekly briefing on what is in store each week. Please get in contact with us if you have any problems regarding home learning.
And finally, my door is always open, please feel free to come in and chat or email me on email@example.com if you have any concerns.
We will continue to work hard with your children and appreciate all support given at home.

Methods In Maths
We understand that the mathematical methods taught in school may be different from what adults at home know and use. Use this link to find videos that explain the methods taught in school for each operation.
At the end of Year 4, children will sit a national times tables test. It is therefore extremely important that times tables are learnt and further consolidated over the course of the year. TT Rockstars is a great resource for this (link above - all children have log in details in their reading records) Children will be tested DAILY.
