Welcome to Y1 Apple

Hello Y1 Apple,

We have spent some time getting to know you and we already know how much of an incredible year we are going to have. We have lots of exciting activities planned for you and we are eager to get started. We look forward to welcoming you into Year 1 in September and we already can’t wait to watch you embark on the next chapter of your learning journey at Firs Primary School. It is now time to enjoy every moment of the holidays, make lots of memories with your families and begin looking forward to a very memorable year ahead of you because it’s going to be amazing!

Weekly Reminders

Please help us in school by remembering the following:

  • Reading AT LEAST 3x each week - Bring reading folders/bags to school daily so we can change your reading books when needed.
  • Home work books (orange) - Going forward we will be setting homework weekly (from Autumn 2) and spelling tests will be on a Monday. Homework books will be sent out on a Wednesday and need to be returned every Monday.
  • Wednesday - Your child should arrive at school wearing their PE kit. This includes: top, shorts and PE pumps.
  • You must return all reading books, reading records and homework books.

As always, if you need anything then we are available to talk to you before or after school.

Best wishes,
Mrs Horridge (Class Teacher) and Mrs Cooper (Teaching Assistant)

Phonics continues from Reception and in Year 1 children gain new skills and enhance their current phonics skills. I would like draw your attention to Mini Writers Club on Instagram. They have lots of handy explanations (like the ones below) and activity ideas, so why not take a look.
