Welcome to Y5 Laurel
We're really looking forward to a fantastic year in Y5Laurel! You can keep up to date with our
Please ensure you are dressed in full uniform in September, with black school shoes
In September, we will start reading Shadowsea by Peter Bunzl so please listen to Mrs Nolan's soothing tones below reading you the prologue and first chapter of this fantastic book!
We expect children to read at home on a regular basis in year 5 and keep practising the rapid recall of their times tables up to 12x12. For the first half term each week, children will receive a piece of literacy home learning, a piece of maths home learning and fifteen spellings to learn. In the second half of the term, children will receive a home learning project to last the full half term as well as weekly spellings.
If there are changes to the weekly routine or there are any issues that arise, please let us know by contacting school either by phone or email -
Thank you for your continued support

Our Reading Area
As a school, we have been pushing a focus on reading for pleasure. It is very important for year 5 children to read regularly and read texts appropriate for them. In class we have our own bookcase and take part in a weekly reading for pleasure session where the children can choose to read in their own way! Children are also encouraged to share books they have been enjoying on our Bookflix Wall.

Methods In Maths
We understand that the mathematical methods taught in school may be different from what adults at home know and use. Use this link to find videos that explain the methods taught in school for each operation.
