Welcome to Y5 Laurel
#Y5Laurel
Welcome to Year 5 – Autumn.
I know that starting a new school year in a new class can be daunting. Be assured that you are in good hands, and I have many exciting, fun and challenging activities planned to keep you engaged throughout the term.
It has also been lovely to welcome so many familiar faces back into my class. Having taught many of you in Year 1, it is wonderful to see how much you have grown and developed over the years. I am really looking forward to continuing your learning journey together, making new memories and sharing another exciting year of learning.
Thank you to all those children who have introduced their parents and guardians to me. Everyone feels more comfortable when they can put a face to a name. If I haven't had the chance to meet you yet, I am on the playground every evening, so please do come and say hello!
Keep up to date with our class by following us on X @firsprimarysale using #Year5Laurel.
Thank you for your continued support.

Welcome to our Art gallery:
Our Art Gallery
Art is a lesson which gives us the opportunity to express our creativity. Sometimes our art is linked to a topic or book and sometimes art is linked to festivals and celebrations in the calendar. Our units this year will be closely linked to drawing, printing and sculpting. We focus on the process rather than the outcome; that way all of our work is unique, just like us! We hope you enjoy the images of our work that will be shared on here and our twitter page throughout the year.
Our Reading Area
As a school, we have been pushing a focus on reading for pleasure. It is very important for year 5 children to read regularly and read texts appropriate for them. In class we have our own bookcase and take part in a weekly reading for pleasure session where the children can choose to read in their own way! Children are also encouraged to share books they have been enjoying on our Bookflix Wall.

Methods In Maths
We understand that the mathematical methods taught in school may be different from what adults at home know and use. Use this link to find videos that explain the methods taught in school for each operation.
